There are lot of questions that the students come across when they decide to do their medicine course in other countries. And the answer for one question varies from person to person, which might not clear the doubts as well.. Below are few frequently asked questions with the accurate answer..

 

  • Canada: After finishing your studies, you can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). The length depends on your study program:
    • If your program is less than 8 months, you can’t get a PGWP.
    • For programs between 8 months and 2 years, you can work for the same duration as your study program.
    • If your program is 2 years or more, you can work for up to 3 years. This is a one-time opportunity to gain Canadian work experience.
  • U.S.: After graduation, international students can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) for up to 12 months, with a 24-month extension for eligible STEM graduates.

U.K.: The Graduate Route visa lets you stay and work for 2 years after completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree and up to 3 years for doctoral degrees

 

  • Canada: Students with a study permit can work up to 20 hours/week during term time and full-time during breaks. If you are in a co-op program, you can work as part of your studies.
  • U.S.: F-1 visa holders can work on-campus up to 20 hours/week during the term and full-time during breaks. After the first year, you can apply for off-campus work like OPT.
  • U.K.: On a Tier 4 student visa, you can work up to 20 hours/week during term time and full-time during vacations.

 

  • Canada: Many universities, such as University of Toronto and McGill University, offer both merit-based and need-based scholarships for international students.
  • U.S.: Universities like Harvard, MIT, and Stanford provide scholarships for international students, often based on merit and need. You can search for opportunities on websites like Scholarships.com.
  • U.K.: Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships are well-known, alongside university-specific ones.

 

  • Canada: After finishing your studies, you can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit to gain work experience. Once you meet residency requirements (usually 3 years), you can apply for Permanent Residency, and later Canadian citizenship.
  • U.S.: You can apply for citizenship after obtaining a green card and having 5 years of permanent residency in the U.S.
  • U.K.: After studying, you can apply for a work visa or the Graduate Route visa. After a few years of working, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), leading to citizenship.

  • GMAT: Required mainly for business school or MBA programs. Universities like Harvard and London Business School require the GMAT. Some may waive it based on your professional experience.
  • IELTS: Required by most universities in the U.S., U.K., and Canada to prove your English proficiency. For Canada, universities like University of Toronto require a minimum score of 6.5-7.0. Check specific university websites for their requirements.

Yes the students can travel back home during the two long vacations in China. Most of the students go home during the summer holidays in July, which lasts for approximately 40 days. The students can also travel back home during the spring holidays in China in January, which lasts for approximately 30 days.

Of course yes! Chinese language is a part of the course. There will be Chinese language classes every semester. The language sessions will train the students to learn basic Chinese as well as Medical Chinese. It helps the students in their daily life while dealing with the public as well as while dealing with the patients during clinical rotations.

The pass percentage for each subject is 60%. However the student needs to score an overall GPA of >2 to get the Degree certificate ( in certain Universities only).

It is not necessary to carry all textbooks to China. Students can buy textbooks from the University. Students can also hire textbooks from the Students library. They can also get the class notes as PowerPoint presentations or printouts.
